My name is Christopher Bann and I am the founder of Gutter-Punk-Radio. Although there are rumors that there was a Gutter-Punk-Radio in the early 80's in New York City, I believe this to be the only Gutter-Punk-Radio. What makes Gutter-Punk-Radio special is the fact that we air punk bands that you would probably never discover if it weren't for Gutter-Punk-Radio. We say this because we air punk music from all over the world. We air bands who are good but are just starting out, those who have never been on radio before but are well known in only one city or state and those who are popular in the united states and all over the world. Even though a band may be popular in a certain state, there are plenty of times where we introduce those types of bands to people on the other side of the world that never knew they existed before tuning into Gutter-Punk-Radio. That alone is a good feeling. Between our listeners and the underground bands we currently air, we are always finding out about other bands and we continue to accept new bands all the time.
Although we air a lot of underground bands you may have never heard of, we also air bands who are very well known and respected in the punk scene such as the Casualties, The Briggs, NOFX, Pistol Grip, Youth Brigade, One Way System and the list goes on and on. Although our roots are “Punk 77”, “Street/Oi punk” and “UK 82”, we do play “Horror punk”, “Anarcho punk”, “Celtic punk”, “Pop punk”, “Psychobilly”, “Ska” and music of other genres that we find interesting. I have also interviewed several bands including the Krum Bums, The Casualties and The Insurgence. If you are interested in having your band interviewed, please contact us.
I would definitely like to expand Gutter-Punk-Radio by welcoming other radio show programmers and D.J.'s. We are currently looking for a couple of people who are not only interested in broadcasting but can create a very creative show that people will be interested in. If you are interested in having your radio show aired on Gutter-Punk-Radio, please contact us.
We have many plans for Gutter-Punk-Radio. As of now, only a few of our several goals have been accomplished. We opened Gutter-Punk-Digital in October of 2009. Gutter-Punk-Digital is a program specifically designed to benefit independent bands and D.I.Y. labels. I say “specifically designed for” because it's a generous program for the artists, not ourselves. One thing that we are definitely against is greed. For those artists that don't believe in selling their music, we offer free server space on gutterpunkradio.com so their music is available as a free download for our listeners. In the future, we will have a profile system on our website where bands, labels and music fans will be able to create a profile (like Myspace). Everyone will be able to join but it will be specifically tailored for punk bands and music fans. Our profile system will be different than the ones currently on other punk websites and with our plans, it will be more popular.
Until a few years ago, I had spent my entire life in Orange County, California. I was born in Huntington Beach, then migrated to Anaheim until I was about 12 years old and then moved to San Clemente, California where I attended San Clemente High School. I have been in the punk scene since I was a kid. I grew up very poor, around Skaters, Punx, mods, S.H.A.R.P.'s, Nazi's and street gangs. We seemed to have all types of people in Orange County. I have no fucking clue what being “PUNK” means although I can tell you I've been homeless, I have eaten out of garbage cans, I have had the shit beaten out of me a few times by cops for the way I dress and my hair style, I have been in jail more times to count for doing things my own way and I know what it's like to be down and out. Am I “Punk Rock”? No!!! I am just me. Christopher Bann. I think, live and breath punk music from the time I wake up in the morning until the time I rest my head at night. My views on the world, Fascism, the government, religion and life itself are very deep. I express my feelings by playing music. Whatever I am feeling at the time, you are probably hearing it on Gutter-Punk-Radio through music.
